Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP)

The Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP) is a Canadian immigration program that aims to attract and retain skilled foreign workers and international graduates to the Atlantic provinces of Canada. The program is designed to help address labor market challenges and stimulate economic growth in the region.

The AIPP involves the participation of four provinces, namely Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick. These provinces work in partnership with the federal government to facilitate the recruitment and settlement of immigrants.

The application process for the program involves several steps:

1. Job Offer: The first requirement is to obtain a valid job offer from a designated employer in one of the participating provinces. The job offer must be for a full-time position and meet the criteria set by the program.

2. Endorsement: Once a job offer is secured, the employer must apply for endorsement from the provincial government. The employer needs to demonstrate that they were unable to find a Canadian citizen or permanent resident for the position and that the hire will benefit the local labor market.

3. Candidate Application: After receiving an endorsement, the foreign worker or international graduate can apply for permanent residency. The candidate submits their application to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) along with the required documents and application fees.

4. PR Processing: The IRCC evaluates the application based on eligibility criteria, including work experience, education, language proficiency, and settlement funds. If approved, the candidate is issued a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) and a permanent resident visa.

It is important to note that the AIPP includes three different categories under which individuals can apply. These categories are the Atlantic High-Skilled Program, the Atlantic Intermediate-Skilled Program, and the Atlantic International Graduate Program. The requirements and criteria vary for each category, so applicants need to determine which one they qualify for.

In terms of the occupation list, the AIPP provides an In-demand Occupations list that consists of specific professions and skill sets that are in high demand in the Atlantic provinces. This list is periodically updated, and it includes occupations in various fields such as healthcare, engineering, information technology, and trades. The list aims to identify occupations that have labor shortages and a higher likelihood of employment opportunities.

Additionally, while there is no official "high demand" or "critical skill" occupation list specific to the AIPP, certain professions might be prioritized based on regional labor market needs and provincial nominee program requirements. It is recommended for applicants to check the occupation in-demand lists provided by each participating province to identify any specific occupations of particular interest or priority.
